The 2015 Nobel Prize in Medicine has been awarded to pioneers in parasitic diseases. The prize is divided between the work of Campbell/Ōmura “for their discoveries concerning a novel therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites” and the other half to Youyou Tu “for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against malaria”. Tu is the first woman from China to receive the award.

These discoveries represent a paradigm shift in medicine, which has not only provided a revolutionary therapy for patients suffering from devastating parasitic diseases, but it has also promoted wellbeing and prosperity of both individuals and society.
